Rebecca earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Mississippi and began a 30-year career as a teacher. She is now retired and spends her days in her New Albany, Mississippi, studio creating original works. Considering herself a lifelong learner, Rebecca studies her natural surroundings as inspiration for many of her hand carved Linoleum Block Prints.
In each work there is an element of personal storytelling. Rebecca hopes the viewer is compelled to lean in, look closely at the work, and recall his or her own unique experience with nature. “In my linoleum print ‘Sphinx Moth with Cleomes,’ I relate one summer evening when I lingered near dark in the dusky presence of a unique creature. The white sphinx moth hovered and flitted like a hummingbird as it fed among a tall stand of white cleomes in the first light of the moon’s appearance. The contentment and joy that I encountered from this moment was the inspiration that led to the sketch and hand-carved print that I now share with others.”
“…while observing gardens and woodlands, I am inspired to produce pastel and printmaking works that reveal the fascinating world just beyond our back doors.” – Rebecca Browning
